Iraqi forces have foiled an attempt to smuggle more than 30 kilograms of narcotics via an airborne balloon west of Anbar province, near the Syrian border.

The Iraqi Border Forces Command announced today that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic substances across the border strip west of Anbar province, close to the Syrian border.

In a statement, the command said that patrols of the 1st Regiment of the 6th Border Brigade succeeded in seizing more than 30 kilograms of narcotics that were being transported by an airborne balloon across the international border west of Anbar.

The statement confirmed that the operation followed careful monitoring and tracking of smugglers’ movements, noting that the seized materials were confiscated in accordance with legal procedures, an official report was filed, and legal measures were taken against those involved.
