Making peace process successful requires transparency; genuine constitutional steps

Members of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in the city of Aleppo evaluated the recent developments related to the peace process and the democratic society initiated by leader Abdullah Ocalan, and the extent to which the concerned parties have responded to it. They considered that the steps taken so far are still insufficient, warning against the repercussions of any attempt to sabotage this process.

Rashid Rasho said that after a historic resistance, leader Abdullah Ocalan launched the call for peace and a democratic society from Imrali, and the party he founded fulfilled its historical and humanitarian responsibilities by responding to the call thru militant steps.

The phase requires transparency and clarification.

Rasho emphasized the necessity for the current phase to be characterized by transparency, and called on the committee that visited leader Abdullah Ocalan to clarify the results of the visit and the content of the discussions and decisions made to the public.

He pointed out that concealing its content and merely providing some information raises suspicions and does not align with the requirements of the current phase.

Rasho said: "We cannot trust the Turkish occupying state absolutely, and this stems from its historical record against the Kurdish people, due to the massacres it has committed against them and its attempts to erase their identity from the map and existence, for history does not forget."

He pointed out that the success of the process requires careful, clear, and precise steps.

Amending the constitution is an important step to ensure the success of the phase.

He also pointed out the importance of the Turkish state amending it constitution to recognize Kurdish identity and guaranty rights and freedoms, in addition to releasing political prisoners, foremost among them leader Abdullah Ocalan, to lead the phase himself from outside Imrali.

He warned that "the Turkish state's thinking of exploiting the phase for its own benefit and denying the role of the Kurds once again will not serve it but will end its era of dominance, weaken it, and ultimately lead to its downfall."

Incomplete steps

For his part, party member Aref Abdo said, "The crises in the Middle East have complex historical roots, and the thot of leader Abdullah Ocalan, based on the democratic model, constitutes a solution to these crises." He explained that the steps taken by the Turkish state are still insufficient.

He called for translating any rapprochement into tangible political and legal measures that recognize Kurdish existence and identity and guaranty rights without exclusion, thru constitutional amendments.
