Activist: Aleppo attacks aim to impose single authority

Walid Al-Hammoud, a political activist from the city of Sweida, said in a statement to ANHA Agency that the fierce assault on the besieged neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, and Bani Zaid in Aleppo is part of an organized campaign intended to impose one-man rule and exclusion.

He condemned the shelling and the accompanying campaigns of incitement, takfir, and accusations of treason carried out by what he described as “forces of extremist political Islam” within the besieged neighborhoods.

Al-Hammoud explained that what is happening in Aleppo’s besieged neighborhoods cannot be considered isolated incidents, but rather falls within a continuous policy targeting all those who reject a governance model based on exclusion and denial of pluralism.

He noted that this approach practically contributes to dismantling Syrian society, undermining what remains of trust among its components, and driving the country toward further division and infighting.

He stressed that the Kurds and their cause represent a unifying national issue, and that targeting the Kurds today is an extension of targeting other Syrian components. He affirmed that defending Aleppo’s besieged neighborhoods is a defense of Syrian dignity and the right of all Syrians to live in a civil, democratic state based on equal citizenship—not coercion, exclusion, or the imposition of faits accomplis by force.
