Political parties call for action on fuel, electricity crisis, criticize energy sector policies

A coalition of political parties has expressed concern over worsening living conditions and the deterioration of public services in the region, citing sharp increases in fuel and electricity prices and the shutdown of several privately operated local generators due to diesel shortages and disruptions in fuel distribution.

In a statement, the parties criticized the economic policies and energy sector administration, saying that rising energy costs and declining purchasing power have placed additional strain on households and pushed more residents into poverty. The parties also voiced reservations about the implementation of the integration agreement involving the Autonomous  Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and the Syrian Interim Government, arguing that the transfer of the management of certain resources and key facilities has not resulted in noticeable improvements in electricity supply or fuel availability.

The statement accused the authorities overseeing the fuel sector of failing to secure sufficient diesel supplies for civil generators and stabilize the market, adding that the suspension of generator services has partially disrupted economic activity and affected the delivery of essential services.

The parties called for a review of the energy and public services provisions under the integration agreement, an investigation into fuel distribution mechanisms, subsidized diesel supplies for local generators and harvesters, and stricter oversight of fuel stations and distribution companies.

They also said they would continue advocating for what they described as residents' right to a dignified standard of living, warning that they could organize peaceful protests, including attempts to block oil transport convoys, if the current crisis remains unresolved.
