​​​​​​​Michael Kurilla: Al-Hol camp represents fertile ground for reviving ISIS

The commander of US operations in the Middle East, General Michael Kurilla described al-Hol camp as a "humanitarian disaster", and urged governments around the world to return their citizens from the camp and rehabilitate them if necessary, according to the American Monitor website.

In a statement following his visit on Friday, Kurilla noted that "more than 90% of al-Hol detainees are women and children, and 70% are under the age of 12," adding that "the camp lacks adequate access to running water and other basic life-support necessities."

The Autonomous Administration of NE Syria has long demanded reopening of the Tel Kojer crossing in order for humanitarian aid which contains many camps, displaced people and displaced persons. In an exclusive interview with ANHA Agency, Farhad Shami, the official of the Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces considered that Al-Hol camp is the second attempt to establish the caliphate, as the third generation of ISIS is emerging here, which is more dangerous than ISIS.

"ISIS seeks to exploit these horrific conditions, and with approximately 80 births in the camp every month, this place is a de facto breeding ground for the next generation of ISIS," Kurilla said.

In this context, a military official told Al-Monitor that Michael Kurilla's visit was the first ever in which a US official entered the al-Hol camp and spoke with the detainees.

"ISIS sees detention centers as its new army," Dana Stroul, the Pentagon's top Middle East official, said during an event in Washington in July.
