Arrest campaign targets dozens of civilians in western rural Homs

ANHA correspondent in Homs reported that the Transitional Government forces in Syria launched a wide arrest campaign that targeted dozens of civilians in the village of Al-Mutaarid in rural Homs. Armed groups of unknown affiliation also took part in the raids and arrests, causing fear and panic among the population.

According to local sources, the campaign resulted in the arrest of more than 50 people from the village, including young men and elderly individuals belonging to well-known local families such as Aboud, Kharfan, Shahhoud, and others.

Information indicates that several detainees were subjected to severe physical torture during their transfer, including heavy beatings and electric shocks, increasing the residents’ fears for their safety and fate.

Residents of the area are experiencing great difficulties in communicating with human-rights organizations or media outlets due to communication outages in several surrounding areas, making it extremely difficult to convey what is happening.

Many young men in the village were also forced to hide in nearby farmlands out of fear of being arrested by the Transitional Government forces.

The correspondent obtained, from local sources in the village, a list of some of the detainees:

The families of the village issued an urgent appeal to media outlets and human-rights organizations to take immediate action, report the reality of what is happening, and work to uncover the whereabouts of their detained relatives and the reasons behind this arrest campaign that has turned the lives of the region’s residents upside down.
