The National Guard in Sweida received 20 individuals—most of them civilians who had been detained by government forces, including three women—in exchange for eight captured government soldiers and fighters.

The exchange was carried out under the direct supervision of United Nations and International Committee of the Red Cross teams at the “Wolga” crossing in western rural Sweida.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, most of the 20 returnees were civilians, including six wounded persons who were immediately transferred for necessary medical treatment.

These detentions occurred during the recent military escalation in Sweida, which began on July 13 of this year, following a government offensive on the city’s countryside.
