The Training Committee of the Coordination of the Kurdistan Women’s Community released a statement titled: "We Will Make Education in Kurdish the Foundation of Peace and a Democratic Society’s Victory" on the occasion of May 15, Kurdish Language Day.

The statement reads as follows:

"On the occasion of May 15, Kurdish Language Day, and with our deep belief that working and educating in the Kurdish language will be the foundation for the success of Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s call for peace and a democratic society, we remember with gratitude and respect all those who have struggled for the Kurdish language, from Melayê Cizîrî, Ehmedê Xanî, and Mir Celadet Bedirxan to Viyan Amara and Zozan Fatma. We bow in reverence to their memory. We also extend our congratulations on this day, the Kurdish Language Day, first and foremost to the hardworking Kurdish mothers who have defended the Kurdish language, and to all teachers and workers in the field of the Kurdish language who, with great faith, have made tremendous efforts against all attacks and the policies of assimilation and cultural genocide imposed on Kurdish language and culture. They have resisted and not succumbed to oppression, and we salute them.

We, the Kurdish people, have entered a significant historical phase since February 27, when Leader Abdullah Ocalan issued the call for 'peace and democratic society.' Through this historic call, based on the principles of peace and democracy, we as the Kurdish people, and Kurdish women in particular, have entered a new stage of struggle and work to develop our rights in language, culture, and national identity.

The Kurdish people no longer surrender to denial policies

Just as the mother tongue is an undeniable right for every people in the world, it is even more so for the Kurdish people, who have been systematically subjected for over a century to all forms of assimilation, genocide, and oppression.

The Kurdish language is a symbol of the existence and identity of the Kurdish people. As one of the oldest peoples in the world, the Kurdish people have shown the entire world, through years of struggle and resistance, that they are proud, revolutionary, and possess their own identity, language, culture, and history. They no longer submit to policies of assimilation, denial, and genocide.

Let us join together with a spirit of general mobilization to build a democratic society

Just as Leader Abdullah Ocalan has guided us, the Kurdish people and Kurdish women, with the idea of a free homeland and a democratic society during every difficult and complex stage for the past 52 years, he has once again laid the groundwork, through his call for peace and a democratic society, to organize the field of education and the Kurdish language based on the consciousness of becoming a democratic nation, and to work on developing the mother tongue in all aspects of life. This new phase, led by women and youth, is an important and historic opportunity for the whole society to speak more in our mother tongue and teach our children Kurdish. It is a time when everyone, from the age of seven to seventy, embraces their national values and gives importance to the development of their mother tongue in every area of life, in line with the spirit of this new process of peace and democratic society, and joins the collective efforts to build a democratic community with a spirit of general mobilization.

With this faith and confidence, we once again congratulate all Kurdish mothers and the entire Kurdish people on the occasion of Kurdish Language Day."
