AANES hands over 34 ISIS children to Russian Federation-updated

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) has handed over 34 orphans from families of ISIS mercenaries to the Russian government, according to an official return document and protocol contracts signed by the Russian side in the city of Qamishlo with the Autonomous Administration.

The handover came during an official visit of a Russian delegation headed by Commissioner for Children's Rights of the President of the Russian Federation Anna Kuznetsova to the city of Qamishlo, and their meeting with officials of the AANES at the Center for Foreign Relations this afternoon.

The protocol was attended by the Co-chair of the External Relations Department, Abdul Karim Omar, and his two deputies, Fener Al-Gait, Abeer Elia, and a member of the administrative body in the department, Sanaa Daham.

The protocol was also attended by the deputy chairperson of the Women’s Commission in the Jazira region, "Avin Qafo and Belqis Hamandi"

ANHA correspondent reported that the handover process followed a lengthy meeting between the two parties, which preceded the press conference regarding the handover process, which was attended by dozens of local and international media outlets.

During the press conference, the two sides confirmed that the handover of children came as a result of humanitarian conditions related to children and their future, as the Co-chair of the Department of External Relations, Abdul Karim Omar, said, "Certainly, the place of these children is not in the camps and in the midst of extremist ideology, but in better places."

Omar added, "Today we hand over 34 children and girl of Russian nationality, all of them are orphan children from the ranks of ISIS and the handover process is, in the first degree, what is required by human morals to secure a better future for these children."

As for the Children's Rights Commissioner to the President of the Russian Federation, Anna Kuznetsova, she thanked the AANES officials for the great efforts made to hand over this number of Russian children, and said, "We are pleased to carry out this operation and to restore the children to their mother country."

She added, "Today, we received 34 children of Russian nationality, who were in the camps, and I extend my great thanks to the Autonomous Administration, which played an effective role in making this work a success."

At the end of the press conference, Kuznetsova, that her country's government will continue to restore the children, and that the next work in restoring the children will be during the coming period, until all Russian children are reached.
