“The leader's call is road map to save people of region”

Leader Abdullah Ocalan emphasized in a message during the September 18 visit of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party delegation that: “There is a need for a new charter based on the right of brotherhood. What we are doing is a major paradigm shift. The essence of the Kurdish-Turkish relationship is something completely different, what is being destroyed is the relationship between brothers.” 

According to Aleppo's intellectual elite, Abdullah Ocalan seeks to restore historical fraternal relations. 

Mohammed Sheikh Qambar, a member of the Aleppo Cultural Forum, emphasized that Ocalan's appeal seeks to restore the historical fraternal relationship between the Turkish and Kurdish communities. He referred to the approach of the Turkish occupation state, explaining that it has not absorbed the harsh lessons of history against dictatorships that ended in fall and annihilation, as it continues to threaten North and East Syria, while continuing to launch attacks on the Medea defense areas.

Mohammed Qambar explained that the Turkish state is still clinging to a “chauvinist” mentality that refuses to accept diverse identities and cultures, despite its claim to seek peace through its speeches, stressing that “words are far from deeds.” He also stressed the need for Turkey to come to its senses and realize that reconciliation serves the future of its country before the Kurdish cause, especially as it is on the verge of falling.

Shirin Sheikho, a member of the Aleppo Cultural Forum, explained that the Middle East is witnessing new political and geographical changes, so leader Abdullah Ocalan launched the Call for Peace and Democratic Society as an additional step in his efforts to consolidate peace and strengthen historical relations. The appeal is “a new roadmap to save the peoples of the region from authoritarian policies that target their resources in favor of the ruling regimes,” she said.

Shirin Sheikho also noted that current developments necessitate a transition from the “stage of armed struggle to political and legal struggle. “the stage of armed struggle to the political and legal struggle,” emphasizing that the next stage needs a profound democratic transformation. Walid Bakr, a member of the Rojava Center for Strategic Studies, said that Ocalan's call has a wide impact at the local, regional and international levels. He called on Turkey to make constitutional amendments that guarantee the rights of the Kurdish people, as well as to reconsider the issue of the leader's kidnapping and release him physically to lead the peace process.

Waleed Bakr pointed out the double standard followed by the Turkish occupation state, as it stipulates: “PYD disarms without offering any return,” which is not feasible, because the stage requires serious steps from both sides and a parallel march towards a solution. He also stressed that the PKK's decision to dissolve its organizational structure came in response to the call of leader Abdullah Ocalan.
