“Displaced Afrin residents await good news of return with every Eid”

 The people of Afrin were displaced from their land and homes on March 18, 2018. They resisted and struggled in Shahba for seven years in the hope of returning safely to their city, only to repeat the scene again and double the tragedy by displacing them again, after the attack on November 29 last year on Tal Rifaat and Shahba, the People's Council in Afrin and Shahba decided to move the people to safe places to avoid any massacres, and accordingly, on December 2 of last year, the people began to move to the areas of the Autonomous Administration. 

The displaced people of Afrin in the city of al-Hasakah shared their wishes for this Eid, and all wishes were reduced to one wish: a safe return to their homes. 

Ahmed Mohammed pointed out that he was displaced from Afrin 8 years ago, and explained that after all these difficulties, he was displaced again, this time from Shahba to the Autonomous Administration areas, so that the heartbreak of returning to Afrin remains in their hearts. “We have been displaced twice and this is the second time that the properties of Afrinis are looted, we call on all international organizations to create conditions for us to return to our homes, despite all the difficulties and tragedies, we still have a wish to return to Afrin,” he said. 

“We went to Shahba when we were displaced from Afrin, and we lived in displacement camps for seven years, and returning to Afrin is a heartbreak in our hearts, but we were displaced again,” said Izzeddin Alo.

“Despite all our pain, we were pleased with the release of the prisoners, but the violations against human beings and nature in Afrin continue, they cut and burn Afrin's trees and commit violations against its indigenous population, and these violations have even affected the dead, they destroyed the shrines of our martyred sons and the graves of our mothers and fathers, and they claim Islam, this is not Islam, a Muslim is characterized by mercy and love,” he said.

Izzeddin Alo concluded: “Our wish is to return to Afrin with our heads held high thanks to the SDF and the Afrin Liberation Forces, Afrin is everything to us, the olive tree is our bread and water, our existence is tied to it, Afrin is my big mom.”

Zakaria Sheikh Mohammed said: “The Turkish occupation state separated us from our families and friends, so we were scattered in the cities, and the holiday is no longer a holiday, but another day in estrangement and heartbreak, I wish the days would return and our holidays would be in our homes and among our families and receive guests, we call on international organizations to assume their responsibilities and ensure the safe return of the displaced.”

Sheikh Mohammed pointed out that Afrin's displaced people are living in the city of al-Hasakah with the hope of returning despite the suffering and attacks, and that they are only asking for what is their natural right, which is to return safely to their homes and receive Eid in their homes and villages and among their families and relatives.
