Guerrilla withdrawal marks historic step toward peace

Intellectuals and researchers in the city of Girkê Legê in the Jazira Canton spoke about the importance of the withdrawal of the guerrilla forces from inside Turkish borders, describing it as a historical turning point toward security, peace, and stability in the region.

Researcher and writer Bradost Mitani said: “The withdrawal of the guerrillas from Turkey is an important step toward peace and serves the Kurdish cause.”

He added that this stage represents “security, peace, and stability for the people of the region,” and called on the Turkish state to “reciprocate this initiative in kind.”

He stressed that “the four parts of Kurdistan view this initiative positively, as it will have a direct impact on the stability of the Middle East in general, and Turkey in particular.”

For his part, Benkin Adam, the member of the Union of Intellectuals of the Jazira Canton, described the guerrillas’ move as “a blessed step,” emphasizing that “leader Abdullah Ocalan seeks to transform war into lasting peace that ensures peaceful coexistence among peoples, especially between the Kurdish and Turkish peoples. The guerrillas are advocates of peace, not war.”

Meanwhile, Sheikhmus Jumaa, another member of the Union of Intellectuals of the Jazira Canton, stated that “the initiation of the peace phase by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) comes as a continuation of Abdullah Ocalan’s repeated calls for peace.”

He affirmed that “the guerrillas bear arms in defense of the oppressed and the Kurdish cause, not out of a love for war.”

He called on “the Turkish state to deal seriously with this initiative to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region.”
