On this, the co-chair of the Syriac Union Party, Sanharib Barsoum, drew attention to the importance of imposing a no-fly zone on northern and eastern Syria at the present time, saying: “Turkish threats against northern and eastern Syria are renewed today and in the future, so we political parties found it necessary and important to demand a no-fly zone on northern and eastern Syria, ensuring its protection from Turkish interference and greed, and preventing genocide against the peoples of the region.

Barsoum noted the dangers of the Turkish occupation's attacks on Syrian territory, especially on NE Syria, and stated: "Turkish ambitions to occupy Syrian territory are serious threats through which it seeks to implement this broad scheme that includes the entire north of Syria through  various stages such as direct intervention or through mercenaries associated with it.

He added: "Turkey has committed war crimes and genocide against the peoples of the region in every intervention it has in Syrian lands through its displacement of the indigenous peoples."

'Turkish safe zones threaten international security'

Barsoum recalled what the Turkish occupation had committed against the citizens during its attacks on Afrin, Serêkaniyê, and Girê Spî, and said: "What happened in those areas will be repeated today in any region occupied by Turkey, from the forced displacement of the peoples of those regions and the effect of demographic change and the settlement of Syrians from other regions in them."

Referring to the reality of the areas that the Turkish occupation state claims are "safe", he said, "In fact, they are safe areas for mercenary groups and terrorism. We know perfectly well that the leaders of ISIS mercenaries are sheltering in the areas occupied by Turkey, which are areas where terrorists settle without any pursuit of them, and thus, "  Turkish safe zones are a direct threat to all of Syria and a threat to international security.

 This international consensus

Barsoum stressed that the demand of the political parties in northern and eastern Syria to impose a no fly zone needs international consensus, and superpowers that sponsor and implement this demand on the ground, so we are continuing this campaign through communication with all countries of the world, international organizations and the United Nations, and we hope from this  The parties must respond to the call of our peoples and find a way to protect the region from these direct threats."

On the reasons why both America and Russia have not responded to the demand to impose a no fly zone on northern and eastern Syria so far, Sanharib Barsoum stated: "These countries have their military presence in Syria and have their influence and interests, and they seek to achieve their goals through their military presence, specifically in northern and eastern Syria."

He continued: "We seek to implement the air embargo on the region, there must be at least understandings between the great powers, but in light of the current and international circumstances, we find it difficult to have a consensus, especially between America and its allies and Russia."

Political parties campaign activities in north and east Syria

Barsoum explained that the political parties' call is a humanitarian call to protect the peoples of the region and the protection of international and United Nations laws through the Turkish military interventions taking place, and that "their appeal is directed to all parties and those who have the ability to protect the region and not achieve international interests at the expense of the blood of the peoples of the region."

About the activities that will be included in the campaign of political parties in north and east Syria calling for the imposition of an air embargo, Barsoum explained: "We launched the campaign through a press conference, and then we had meetings with international politicians and parliamentarians, whether directly or via the Internet, and conveying the reality of the region and the importance of our demands, especially with regard to the appeal  Air embargo.

Barsoum explained that the campaign will continue until July 19, which coincides with the tenth anniversary of the revolution of Rojava, northern and eastern Syria, and that they continue with these activities, meetings and relations with the outside to protect the region, adding: "We hope that there will be a response because it is the demand of all civil, political and popular events and institutions."
