Israeli Ambassador: Tel Aviv is open to the idea of ​​an expanded nuclear agreement with Tehran

The Israeli ambassador to Germany, Jeremy Issacharov, told AFP that the recent call by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas to expand the 2015 Iran nuclear deal is a "step in the right direction."

The current US President Donald Trump, who will leave the White House in January, withdrew in 2018 from the agreement that the United States, China, Russia, Germany, France and Britain concluded with Iran to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Trump believes that the agreement is not sufficient to limit the movements of the Islamic Republic of Iran that lead to instability, for his part, Democratic President-elect Joe Biden confirmed his plan to return to this agreement.

However, Tehran has tightened its position in recent weeks, to the point that Paris, London and Berlin expressed at the beginning of December its "deep concern" over the installation of three successive sets of advanced centrifuges for uranium enrichment in Natanz.

The German Foreign Minister, on the fourth of December, called for an additional nuclear agreement that would prohibit the development of nuclear weapons as well as ballistic missiles that threaten the entire region.

Israeli ambassador said the signatories of the agreement should take into account Iran's destabilizing involvement in countries such as Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq before any new negotiations with Tehran.

"I think that people should realize that we simply cannot go back to 2015," he added, noting that "there was production of missiles and missile tests, and these issues need to be addressed, in addition to the widespread violations committed by Iran to the entirety of the JCPOA agreement."
