SOHR: 14 murder cases in Damascus-held areas during May

Crime rates are dangerously high in the areas under the control of the Damascus government, due to the absence of law and proliferation of weapons, in addition to other factors such as poverty, unemployment, and domestic violence.

In this context, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented, since the beginning of May, 14 crimes in separate areas under the control of the Damascus government, most of which occurred in Daraa, Latakia, As-Suwayda and Homs.16 people were killed in these murders; They are 2 children, 3 women and 11 men.

More than 90 crimes since the beginning of the year

Thus, the number of murders committed since the beginning of this year has reached 91 intentional killings, which claimed the lives of 100 people, including 12 children, 23 women, and 65 men and young men. Most of these crimes took place in the countryside of Damascus, Latakia, As-Suwayda, and Daraa.

Psychologists and analysts believe that the Syrian crisis that the country is going through has the greatest impact on the growth of murder and crime cases, after it left many disasters at various levels.

Although more than a decade has passed since the Syrian crisis, the Damascus government has not taken any actual measures to save the country from the repercussions of the crisis.

On the contrary, the areas under the control of the Damascus government have had the largest share of influence due to the decisions issued by the government.

Syria ranked tenth in the world in crime rate in a classification conducted by the "Nambio" website, which specializes in crime indicators around the world, last year, while it ranked 12th in the world in 2020, and 11th in 2021, and the second in Asia in crime rate after Afghanistan.
