Turkey occupies Southern Kurdistan amid tight silence – Hevidar Khaled

In recent weeks, Southern Kurdistan has witnessed a major Turkish incursion into many villages and cities in Dohuk Governorate, which is a dangerous development and a flagrant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty. It also comes within the framework of the Ottoman project that the Turkish state is leading in the region, not only in Iraq and Syria, but also in many Arab countries, such as Yemen, Sudan, Libya, and Somalia, in order to achieve their dream of controlling and dominating the world.

On the other hand, the president of the Turkish regime, who harbors dreams of the return of Ottomanism, continues his attempts to annex lands from neighboring Syria and Iraq, the latest of which was in the Dohuk Governorate in Southern Kurdistan. The occupying Turkish army also announced the official annexation of the city of Amadiya and the Barwari Bala region in Southern Kurdistan to Turkish territory. Local reports indicated that the Turkish occupation army hung signs reading “It is forbidden to enter Turkish territory” in Arabic in the villages of the Barwari Bala region, which sparked the dissatisfaction and anger of the local residents.

“The Turkish regime's army has also established new military bases, set up security barriers and checkpoints, and prevented people from passing through those areas, in order to create a security corridor on the Iraqi-Turkish border and expand at the expense of neighboring countries, taking advantage of the complicity of some regional parties that provide it with all kinds of support, such as the Kurdistan Democratic Party. And the silence of the Iraqi government regarding the violations that the country is subjected to against its population, whose blood has been shed and who have been forced to emigrate and be displaced from their lands, in addition to the violations that the Kurdish people have been exposed to as part of the ongoing genocide against them for many years.

Yes, the Iraqi government has not yet come out with a statement of denunciation, condemnation, or protest against what the residents of southern Kurdistan are exposed to, even at the media level. There is no significant position from Iraqi officials regarding the Turkish occupation soldiers who arrive and roam the lands of Southern Kurdistan with complete freedom without moving anyone.”

“Of course, as is known, no country can enter the territory of another country without agreements and understandings, whether public or secret. This is what actually happened in Iraq, especially during the past short period, and the president of the Turkish regime took advantage of it by occupying more Iraqi lands in front of everyone’s eyes.

It is important here to return to the agreement concluded between Ankara and Baghdad in 1984, and signed by both the Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz and the Turkish Foreign Minister at the time, which allowed Turkey to enter 5 kilometers into the territory of the Kurdistan region for only one year. The same applies to the agreement that was signed between Damascus and Ankara in 1998 during the rule of the late Syrian President Hafez al-Assad in Syria, which was known as the Adana Agreement and stipulated that Turkey was allowed to penetrate into Syrian territory, a distance of 5 kilometers, under the pretext of tracking down the cadres of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party. However, in reality, it lies within the framework of Turkey's occupation efforts in the region and the dream of restoring the Ottoman Empire, the danger of which most Arab leaders and leaders ignore, amid the absence of Arab national security and the absence of any clear vision of the wars and crises that are afflicting it.

“Yes, wherever there is chaos, Erdogan finds a presence that makes it more complicated to get out of it with gains that enable him to remain in power for the longest possible period, after he lost many of the cards he was playing with regional and international parties. Today, we find him working to establish security zones in southern Kurdistan and the city of Dohuk, which is under Turkish control, and implementing the plan and scenario that he implemented in northern Syria by recruiting Syrians to achieve his goals, taking advantage of the Iraqi House’s division, which exacerbated the deterioration and complexity of the situation.

The agreements concluded between the Turkish regime on the one hand, and both the Iraqi government and the regional government on the other hand, have increased during the recent period, albeit at the expense of the Iraqi people, as specialists in this regard indicate that the volume of economic dealings between Iraq and Turkey amounted to twenty billion dollars, while it reached 14 billion in the Kurdistan region, in addition to the secret agreements concluded between the two sides, far from the interests of Iraq and its people, even if they were close to the politicians there. Turkey is the only one benefiting at the present time, while Iraq loses a lot in this aspect in the face of achieving Erdogan’s interests in the region.”

Among the agreements concluded with Turkey are the water pumps that were promised to Iraq, which suffers from an unprecedented scarcity of water levels. However, procrastination and playing on this chord have been the habits of the Turkish regime since the Justice and Development Party (AKP) took control of the country in early 2003. I do not think this is hidden from Iraqi politicians, but as the saying goes, “helplessness” in light of the crises and partisan disputes that the Iraqi government is experiencing, which have had a significant impact on the deterioration of the situation at the present time.

Therefore, the Iraqi government and people, after their rights were violated and their will robbed, have no choice but to stand united in the face of Erdogan’s Turkish ambitions, and not to yield to the latter’s attempts aimed at dragging it into a war against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which has long been an impenetrable barrier to Ankara’s attempts to control Iraq and occupy its lands.
