5 recommendations about the conference on the health implications of isolation in Imrali
The Health Authority in North and East Syria concluded its conference on the health implications of the isolation imposed on Leader Abdullah Ocalan, with a series of recommendations, most notably seeking to obtain the necessary licenses for sending bodies such as TTB and CPT to go to Imrali, while allowing doctors to conduct their examinations and publish the reports prepared for public opinion.
Today, the city of al-Hasakah witnessed a conference held by the Health Authority of North and East Syria to discuss the health implications of the isolation imposed on Leader Abdullah Ocalan, under the slogan "Isolation is the greatest threat to human health and a violation of the most basic right to life."
More than 500 medical, health, and human rights figures and international participants participated in the conference, with the attendance of a delegation from the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and civil society institutions.
After reading a detailed report on the health repercussions of the isolation imposed on Leader Ocalan and the conditions of his detention, the conference witnessed many interventions whose words shed light on Leader Ocalan's health condition and Turkey's violations of international laws and conventions that it signed itself, amid the silence of the concerned and international parties regarding what is being practiced in Imrali prison. The conference concluded with a set of recommendations, which are as follows:
1. The standard of equality must be implemented on a legal basis as well as to end isolation. Therefore, the Democratic Autonomous Administration and civil society organizations must develop their activities in order to end the aforementioned isolation and torture.
2. It is necessary to seek to obtain the necessary licenses for the sending bodies such as TTB and CPT to go to Imrali, while allowing doctors to conduct their examinations and publish the reports that have been prepared to public opinion.
3. In order to get Imrali prison out of the state of emergency, international standards and decisions of the European Court of Human Rights - as well as the recommendations of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) - must be relied upon, and these practices must be abolished from both the legal and political perspectives. To achieve this, communication and work with international organizations and institutions must be done together.
4. Mr. Ocalan's freedom must be achieved through the (right to hope), as the European Court of Human Rights has stated that every human being has the right to be released from prison after serving twenty years, and it is considered a bad practice if the prisoner is deprived of this right. In the same context, in the (right to hope), there is respect for human dignity. In order to achieve the physical freedom of the leader, communication mechanisms must be built and effective democratic policies must be activated and adopted. This will be important even for achieving peace in the region. Therefore, a body composed of wise men and lawyers in North and East Syria must be prepared to take the initiative to meet with the European Council.
5. The truth about Mr. Ocalan is clear to all, whether in Turkey or in the Middle East, as well as to all faiths, languages, identities, cultures and societies. This is also valid for achieving peace, based on the fact that these explanations touch on the truth and are dialectical thought. For all of the above, we direct our appeal to all national and international institutions, personalities, intellectuals and democratic circles to adopt the decisions of this conference and to develop their activities and events in line with the sensitivity of the situation.
