On the tenth anniversary of the genocide committed by ISIS on August 3, 2014, in Şengal, the KJK Coordination issued a statement, which reads:

"On the tenth anniversary of the attacks by the reactionary and backward forces of ISIS on Şengal, we respectfully and gratefully remember all our comrades who were martyred in this war of dignity and honor, including Nujian Arhan, Bêrîvan Şingalî, Arîn Şingalî, Mother Koli, Mother Arzan, Jîlan, Mam Zeki, Delşêr Herkul, Avîn Dirik, Akîd Cewyan, Nujîn Sert, Helîn Mirdîn, Bêrkdan, Zerdüşt, Seyd Hasan, Cewar Faqîr, Dilkesh Rojhilat, and Kengo Hewlêr. As the ‘Dervishes and Just Ones’ of our time, they not only saved Şengal but also preserved the ancient culture and human values of the Middle East from this genocide, strengthened the hope for a free life, and renewed our pledge to ensure self-administration for Şengal so that it can govern itself with its own will.

ISIS, as a product of global dominance forces, attacked human values and sought to annihilate everything in the name of life. These forces, which attacked Şengal in 2014, aimed to destroy our Êzîdî people, who form the fundamental roots of the Middle East and the geography of Mesopotamia, and to eradicate everything in the name of life.”

The Women of Şengal have spread the hope of free life across the world

The women of Şengal were the most affected by this brutal attack, with thousands of women and children sold in markets as war booty, thousands killed, thousands displaced, and the fate of thousands still unknown to this day. The 2014 ISIS attack demonstrated that all peoples without self-defense and organization are subjected to massacres and face this danger continuously. Based on this reality, our women and the Êzîdî people learned from the events and history after the genocide, established their own self-defense force, and organized themselves. The women realized that genocides and massacres are not their inevitable fate. They drew strength and courage from the ideology of leader Apo, rising up and resisting. By spreading the ideas of leader Apo and the ancient Êzîdî doctrine, they began organizing a free life. The women who demonstrated their organization and will through the Êzîdî Women’s Freedom Movement (TAJÊ) ensured the protection of their essence and organization through the Women's Units in Şengal (YJŞ). It is time for the women who faced tanks with stones in their hands, who filled the trenches they had dug themselves, and who carried arms to defend Şengal and themselves. The women of Şengal have spread the hope of free life in all aspects of life through the democratic nation project of leader Apo.

Achievements and gains must be embraced

The Autonomous Administration in Şengal is the greatest and strongest response to genocides and massacres, and it signifies the defeat of the dirty schemes against Şengal. Western countries, the Turkish state, the Iraqi government, and the Barzani family, who were fearful of this truth, signed a conspiracy under the name of the October 9 Agreement. Through this agreement, they impose slavery and massacres on our Êzîdî people and aim to carry out genocide against Êzîdîs through laws. What they could not achieve through ISIS, they are trying to accomplish with this agreement and fraudulent laws. But there is a truth they have forgotten: Şengal is not the old Şengal. Our people must confront this conspiracy, which they aim to execute in various ways, and strengthen their determination to live a free life and protect their culture, language, beliefs, and values. They must embrace and amplify their achievements and gains.

On the tenth anniversary of the genocide, the forces involved must be held accountable. This genocide should be recognized as a crime against humanity in the Middle East and internationally. ISIS and its accomplices, such as the Turkish state and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, should be prosecuted for committing genocide. Above all, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and its military forces, which handed over our people and Şengal to ISIS, should be held accountable. The fascist Turkish state should also be prosecuted for its support of the genocide committed by ISIS mercenaries in 2014, as well as for the massacres committed after the liberation of Şengal. Our entire people, especially women and democratic circles, must raise awareness of this situation and bring cases related to the genocide to court to punish the perpetrators and those responsible. The Iraqi government, which did not resist ISIS mercenaries during the attacks, must respect the people of Şengal and acknowledge the autonomous administration and the will of our people.

Organizing women is the guarantee of Şengal

On the tenth anniversary of the genocide, we call on youth, women, and the democratic public to defend Şengal and its achievements, and to enhance them, while fighting against the betrayal of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, which insists on a policy of collusion and leads enemy forces in Kurdistan. Working vigorously to build a model of democracy, environmental sustainability, and women's liberation means standing against genocides and massacres. Revenge against the officials and perpetrators of this massacre can be achieved through organization and women's self-defense. Women who strengthen their organization in all aspects of life will be the guarantee of Şengal and Êzîdxan.
