On Friday, August 23, the Turkish occupation state targeted a car belonging to the "Jatar" media company in southern Kurdistan, which resulted in the martyrdom of journalists Gulistan Tara and Hîro Baha al-Din and the injury of 6 others, which was widely condemned in the region of North and East Syria.

Khadija Al-Abdullah, a media professional in Deir-ez-Zor canton and co-chair of the Media Office in the Democratic Autonomous Administration in Deir-ez-Zor canton, condemned this targeting and stressed that "this targeting is a major challenge facing the transmission of the truth, and an attack on society in general."

Khadija al-Abdullah pointed out that freedom of expression anywhere in the world is one of the foundations of democracy that society must strive to strengthen, not hide and undermine.

She stressed that "these attacks will not affect our journalistic and media career, and we will continue to convey the truth no matter the cost."

Journalist and JIN TV correspondent Fatima al-Hajj also condemned this targeting and said: "This criminal act is contrary to all international values, norms and covenants, and a blatant violation facing the media."

She called on the whole world, all press unions, concerned parties and international organizations that claim to protect human rights, to take a firm stance against this crime and to refer it to all international forums as one of the war crimes committed by the Turkish occupation state.

In her turn, Hiba Fatih, a member of the Women's Media Union in North and East Syria and a correspondent for Ronahi TV, condemned the Turkish occupation state's continued targeting of media workers, and stressed that "its goal is to silence the voice of truth and cover up its brutal crimes against peoples yearning for freedom."

Human Rights Watch and Reporters Without Borders called for rapid intervention and an end to violations against women in general and the targeting of journalists.

They pledged to follow in the footsteps of the martyrs in exposing the truth about the Turkish occupation state, its crimes and human rights violations.
