The Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives condemned the attack of the Turkish occupation state on a car of journalists working in the free media in the Sayed Sadiq district of the city of Sulaymaniyah, which resulted in the martyrdom of journalists GUlestan Tara and Hiro Bahaa al-Din, and the injury of 6 other journalists

In a statement, the parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee called on the federal government to take immediate measures to prevent the recurrence of these attacks and impose legal accountability against the perpetrators.

Dilan Ghafoor, head of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Iraqi parliament, said in a statement that: "On Friday 23/8/2024, a drone targeted a vehicle carrying journalists in the Sayed Sadiq district of Sulaymaniyah province, killing 2 journalists and wounding another."

"We strongly condemn the attack and the targeting of journalists, and consider this attack an unjustified crime and a violation of international laws and conventions, especially since it targeted civilians and journalists as they do not represent a threat to any party, and all parties must respect press freedom, as it is a flagrant violation of the Iraqi territory sovereignty," Ghafoor said

Ghafoor said "These attacks and their targeting of civilians, which we have seen repeatedly, are a natural consequence of previous attacks that have not been seriously stopped and brought to an end.".

The chairperson of the House Foreign Relations Committee said: "It is the duty of the federal government to take immediate action to prevent the recurrence of these attacks and to impose legal accountability against the perpetrators."
