12 civilians, including 5 women, were kidnapped in and around Homs, which is under the control of the Damascus government, during the month of August.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported an increase in kidnappings in Syria, documenting 12 cases of kidnapping since the beginning of August in the cities of Homs, Sweyda, Tartous and Daraa.

According to the SOHR, three of them were released in exchange for sums of money totaling $90,000.

According to the same source, the kidnapped are: "8 people, including 5 women from Homs, a doctor from Sweyda, a child in Tartous and 2 people in Daraa."

Abductions and murders are increasing in areas under the control of the Damascus government as a result of the lawlessness in the areas, instability and deteriorating living conditions.
