"Water and Peace, Strong Partnership for Prosperous Future" forum kicks off

The Union of Municipalities and the Directorate of Water in Jazera Canton organized the "Water and Peace, Strong Partnership for a Prosperous Future" forum in conjunction with World Water Week, which runs from 25 to 29 August.

Representatives of relevant democratic autonomous-administration institutions and bodies, civil society organizations, and dozens of activists and academics from NE Syria will participate in the forum at the Nergiz Hall in Qamishlo.

The Forum began with a speech by the Deputy Co-chair of the Union of Municipalities in the Jazera Canton, Berevan Omar, who welcomed the attendees and stressed the importance of the forum given that the NE Syria region suffer from a number of challenges in the water sector.

And added: "Water issues are one of the most thorny issues in the world and in the NE Syria, and water sustainability is at great risk, water is now being used as a tool of war against the region by trapping the water of the Euphrates River and cutting off the water of the Alok station."

Within the agenda of the forum, a number of important issues related to water will be discussed through a number of lectures, including:

A lecture entitled "Water Importance and Resources in the Jazera Canton" delivered by the Co-Chair of the Canton's Water Director Berivan Slo.

A lecture entitled "Groundwater in North and East Syria: Reality and Challenges", delivered by Nizar Khalif, Doctor of Geological and Metallurgical Sciences - Rojava University.

A lecture entitled "The Effect of Irrigation Methods on Groundwater" will be delivered by Amin Aref, a researcher in the field of modern irrigation techniques.

In addition to a lecture entitled "Women's relationship with water" delivered by the lecturer at the Department of Geneology at the University of Rojava Zozan Muhammed.
