Bashar al-Assad: Statements by Turkish officials are baseless
Bashar al-Assad said that restoring relations between Syria and Turkey requires first removing the reasons that led to their destruction, adding: "We will not give up any of our rights." He pointed out that the statements by Turkish officials are baseless.

In a speech to the People's Assembly at the opening of the so-called "fourth legislative role" of the Council, Bashar al-Assad said: "The current situation is a global crisis, and its implications for us prompt us to work faster to repair what can be repaired from the pain of a friend's stabbing, thus dealing with the initiatives on the relationship with Turkey that are being made more than by Russia, Iran and Iraq."
Bashar al-Assad addressed the Turkish occupation: "We did not occupy the territory of a neighbouring country to withdraw, we did not support terrorism to stop supporting, and the solution is to be honest and to locate the imbalance rather than the impropriety. How to address a problem whose real causes we do not see, and restoring a relationship requires first the removal of the causes that have led to its destruction and we will not waive any of our rights."
He added: "Any negotiation process needs a reference to rely on in order to succeed, and one of the reasons for not reaching results in previous meetings is the absence of a reference. Syria constantly stresses the necessity of Turkey's withdrawal from the lands it occupies and stopping its support for terrorism."
Assad continued: "The stage that Syria is talking about now is the stage of foundations and principles; because its success is what establishes success later, and the statements of Turkish officials are baseless, as our standard is sovereignty."
