Condemnations for targeting journalists Gulistan and Hero

Dozens of women, along with representatives from the Democratic Autonomous Administration, the Martyrs' Families Council, and the Syrian Women's Council, gathered to protest the Turkish attack that targeted a vehicle carrying journalists in the Sayed Sadiq district of Sulaymaniyah in S. Kurdistan, resulting in the martyrdom of journalists Gulistan Tara and Hero Bahaa al-Din and the injury of other journalists on Friday (August 23).

During the protest, organized by the Zenobia Women's Gathering Council in the Manbij Canton, the council issued a statement read by its member Nisreen Hassan Mulla.

The council strongly condemned the "treacherous attack carried out by the Turkish occupation on Friday against a vehicle carrying journalists in the Sayed Sadiq area within the borders of Sulaymaniyah province, which led to the martyrdom of journalists Hero Bahaa al-Din and Gulistan Tara."

The Zenobia Women's Gathering Council deemed the attack a "deliberate targeting of free journalists and freedom of opinion and expression, and a blatant violation of international law and human rights."

The council highlighted the careers of the two martyred journalists, stating, "Hero Bahaa al-Din dedicated her life to independent media work, while Gulistan Tara had been working in journalism since 2000, and was a prominent member of the Free Media Institution, collaborating with various media organizations to shed light on the issues of the peoples of the region, oppressed peoples in general, and women's freedom in particular."

The Zenobia Women's Gathering Council called on the international community "to take immediate action and exert real pressure on Turkey to stop its attacks on the peoples of the region, freedom of the press, and expression, and to respect the right of the Kurdish people and all peoples to life, freedom, and dignity."

They affirmed that "the voice of the 'Woman, Life, Freedom' revolution will continue to spread throughout the world. We will not remain silent, we will not forget, and we will hold accountable with the justice of women.”
