5,336 candidates in North and East Syria are running in the municipal elections scheduled to be held on June 11, according to what the High Electoral Commission revealed to the region.

In the city of Qamishlo in al-Jazira Canton, the “Peoples and Women for Freedom” coalition, consisting of 22 political parties and women’s organizations, the “Together for Better Services” coalition, consisting of 6 parties, the Kurdish Democratic Unity Party in Syria “Yekiti,” and the Construction and Development Party, are competing. The Syrian, and an independent candidate, for the city municipality.

The competition for the municipality of the city of Qamishlo is intensifying between these parties, with 9 male and female candidates for the co-chairs, and they are?

Candidates of the "Alliance of Peoples and Women for Freedom" for the co-chairs of the municipality of Qamishlo

Berivan Omar, was born in the city of Amuda in 1990, and has currently resided in the city of Qamishlo for 7 years. She is a graduate of agricultural engineering at al-Furat University. With the outbreak of the revolution in North and East Syria, she became involved in working within civil society institutions until 2015, after which she was elected as an administrator for the Amuda Municipal Council, and then moved to the office of Women within the local administration body and municipalities in the former al-Jazira Canton, and contributed to several projects that serve women, were elected in recognition of their efforts as vice co-chairmanship of the local administration body in the al-Jazira Canton in 2018. She was nominated by Kongra Star.

Satifo Isho Masoud, born in 1963 from the village of Tal Jihan and residing in the city of Qamishlo, graduated from the Institute of Agricultural Machinery in the city of Aleppo in 1986, and was appointed to the spinning and weaving factory in Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor, but he did not continue there to devote himself full-time to the agricultural field.

In 2017, he joined the Syriac Cultural Association in the city of Qamishlo, and ran for the council of the western side of the city previously, and worked in the Education Committee and the Economics Committee. He also worked in the Bakeries Directorate in 2020 in the city of Qamishlo and 2021, and then he devoted himself entirely to the Syriac Cultural Association in the city of Qamishlo and was following up on organizational matters as commune of his neighborhood in al-Wosta'a.

Aras Jumaa was born in the city of Qamishlo in 1987. He is a graduate of the Institute of Commerce and Economics. In 2013, he worked as a teacher of the Kurdish language, worked as director of the Jakar Khuwayn Institute, and ran schools in the city of Qamishlo during the years 2016-2017. In 2018, he entered the field of media as the media officer for the Green Democratic Party.

Khadija Ahmed al-Hussein, born in the city of Qamishlo in 1975, holds a middle school diploma, and joined the Kurdish Democratic Left Party since the mid-nineties. She worked in the women’s office within the party and is now the deputy in charge of the women’s office.

Jihan Abdel Halim Mustafa, born in the city of Qamishlo in 1980, has been a member of the party for 25 years, and a graduate of a commercial banking institute. With the beginning of the formation of the communes, she served as co-chair of the Martyr Basil commune in the Assyrian neighborhood, and worked as an accountant in the school administration from 2017-2018.

Masoud al-Amo, born in the city of Qamishlo in 1982, joined the Kurdish Democratic Unity Party in Syria in 1999, graduated from a health institute in Aleppo in 2002, and also graduated from the Faculty of Education at Damascus University in 2010.

Sawsan Ahmed Hussein was born in the city of Qamishlo in 1969. She graduated from Rojava University, Department of Geography in 2018, and is a member of the Syrian Construction and Development Party.

Zuhair Suleiman Mikhlif was born in the city of Qamishlo in 1990. He holds a degree in commerce and economics. He worked as a financial accountant in the institutions of the Autonomous Administration, and co-chaire the Education Authority of the Autonomous Administration in the former al-Jazira Canton in 2015. He joined the Construction and Development Party on January 10, 2022.

The only independent candidate for the co-chair of the municipality of Qamishlo city

Sonia Mirza, an independent candidate for the co-chair of the municipality of the city of Qamishlo, was born in Qamishlo in 1965, holds a middle school diploma, and has worked in many civil society, as well as cultural, and Democratic Autonomous Administration institutions.
