Announcing the start of work “Committee on Missing Persons in NE, Syria"
The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced the start of the work of the Committee on Missing Persons in the region, starting next Saturday, February 10, 2024, within Al-Jazira canton, and in the coming period it is scheduled to open branches in the rest of the cantons of the region.
The Committee on Missing Persons in North and East Syria, which was established by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria on August 29, 2023, in response to the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, will begin its work in Al-Jazira canton starting next Saturday, according to what the committee reported on its official websites.
The committee confirmed that work will begin in both the Qamishlo and Al-Hasakah centers, and therefore the families of missing persons can visit the nearest one of the two centers.
The spokesman for the committee, which was created within the structure of the Department of Foreign Relations in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, lawyer Khaled Omar, said, “Since its establishment, the committee has begun preparing to carry out its tasks, and has completed its preparatory work, and the subcommittees in Qamishlo and Al-Hasakah will begin their work as of next Saturday".
Regarding the committee’s work program, Omar said, “The committees in Al-Jazira canton will receive visitors during Saturday and Tuesday of each week, from 10 am to 2 pm.”
He noted that "the committee's work during this stage will be to collect data and create a database for missing persons."
Omar stated that its branches in Kobani, Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, Manbij, Afrin, and Al-Shahba will also begin operating very soon.
