YPG statement on Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh
The General Command of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) affirmed its continued commitment to the principles of self-administration. It also stated that it will adapt its position in line with the strategic requirements of the new phase.

This step implements the sixth clause of the agreement, which stipulates the redeployment of military units—with their equipment—to the eastern Euphrates region.
The General Command of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) issued a statement regarding this agreement and the handover of security responsibilities in the two neighborhoods to the Internal Security Forces.
The statement, published through YPG's official communication channels, reads as follows:
“Since the onset of the latest phase of the Syrian conflict, the people of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh in Aleppo have succeeded in establishing a structured and self-reliant defensive system in the face of persistent threats. The People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) have actively supported and reinforced this line of defense.
During this period, our forces have made significant sacrifices, in addition to achieving strategic gains, playing a crucial role in ensuring the security and stability of the civilian population. Recent developments have reaffirmed the resilience and effectiveness of these collective efforts, with our units carrying out their duties with discipline and responsibility.
In line with the latest agreement between the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and the Syrian interim government, the responsibility for maintaining security in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh has been officially transferred to the Internal Security Forces operating under the framework of the Autonomous Administration. A partial withdrawal of our forces has already been completed, and the remaining units will be redeployed in a phased and organized manner in the coming days.
The People’s Protection Units and Women’s Protection Units remain firmly committed to the principles of democratic self-administration and the will of the people. We will continue to adapt our posture in accordance with the strategic requirements of the new phase.”
