A US A-10 aircraft flew at low altitude today over the deserts of Palmyra and Al-Sukhnah, as well as the Al-Amour and Al-Dahik mountain ranges, amid reports that positions used by ISIS mercenaries in the area extending between the Al-Sukhnah desert and Mount Al-Amour were targeted.

According to the Syrian Observatory, the strikes hit positions near the Bir Fayez area, administratively affiliated with the Al-Sukhnah area. No precise information is yet available regarding the extent of the damage or the human casualties resulting from the bombardment.

The area contains a number of caves and underground shelters that ISIS mercenary cells used for hiding and concealment. There are reports that some of them continue to be used, particularly in the rugged areas of the desert.
