Death sentence for man convicted of kidnapping, torturing, killing child

The Second Criminal Court in Hama has sentenced a convicted man to death after finding him guilty of kidnapping a child, torturing him and then strangling him to death in a crime dating back to 2022.

The Second Criminal Court in Hama issued a death sentence against Mohammad Khaled al-Sheikh after convicting him of kidnapping the child Mohammad Kamal Khabbaz and torturing him for about two hours before strangling him to death, according to Hama’s Judicial Authority, which announced the ruling today.

During the crime, the convicted man recorded a video documenting what he had done and then sent it to the child’s mother, who was his former wife, in what was described as an act of revenge against her.

The case dates back to 2022, when the killing of Mohammad Kamal Khabbaz drew widespread attention. Hama’s judicial authorities later announced in January 2026 that the suspect had been rearrested after fleeing, confirming that he had been placed under the authority of the judiciary.

The ruling by the Second Criminal Court in Hama comes as part of the judicial proceedings in the case, following its referral to the courts and the completion of trial procedures.
