Rising fuel prices increase cost of living for residents of Kobani

Like other parts of Syria, the city of Kobani is witnessing an increase in fuel prices, further exacerbating the economic and living burdens on residents. The rise has affected transportation costs, food prices, and the prices of basic necessities. Purchasing and securing diesel has become an additional burden for families, at a time when residents say their financial means are no longer sufficient to cover fuel expenses and provide basic household necessities.

Driver Mohammad Yarmak, who relies on driving to support himself and his family, said that the transitional government’s decision to raise fuel prices has increased the economic and living burdens. He pointed to the impact of the increase on the prices of food, transportation, and bread, saying that it has also caused discontent among residents.

He added that the rise in prices has made travel between villages and cities more expensive, given that various aspects of daily life are closely linked to fuel.

For his part, driver Zuhair Bilal Ossi, who works on the transportation route between the city and the surrounding villages, explained that the decision to raise fuel prices has made transportation more difficult. He noted that most residents cannot afford the higher transportation costs.

He said that raising transportation fares harms citizens, while keeping them unchanged causes losses for drivers, stressing that the crisis has begun to affect families across the community.

Residents called for greater support for fuel and for efforts to reduce its prices so that it becomes affordable for all citizens.
