Protests spread across Syria amid livelihood crisis and delayed salaries

Protests and popular movements have expanded in several parts of Syria as economic and livelihood crises worsen, with salaries and financial dues delayed, alongside a fuel shortage and declining levels of basic services.

In Hasakah Governorate, protesters have continued for the fourth consecutive day to block the M4 international highway near Tal Tamr. They have placed barriers and obstacles that have disrupted the passage of oil tankers and vehicles belonging to the oil sector, demanding improved living conditions and solutions to fuel and service-related crises.

In Aleppo, residents held a protest in the al-Sukkari neighborhood against the acts of rioting and vandalism that accompanied previous protests over a decision to raise fuel prices. Participants called for demands and rights to be expressed through peaceful means, warning of the consequences of damaging property and disrupting public services.

In Deir ez-Zor Governorate, employees and workers at the al-Omar oil field have continued for a second consecutive day to block the road leading to the field, at the al-Attal junction and on the outskirts of Dhiban, in protest against delays in their salaries and financial dues, which have remained unpaid for more than eight months.

The protesters set tires on fire and prevented field vehicles from moving, saying they would continue their sit-in and block the road until their demands are met, amid a lack of official clarification regarding their outstanding payments and employment status.
