Representatives from DAA, SDC meet German MPs to discuss Turkish attacks, ISIS file
A joint delegation from the Democratic Autonomous Administration Council of North and East Syria and the Syrian Democratic Council urged international powers to assume their responsibilities in establishing stability, reducing migration and combating terrorism in the region.
A high-level delegation from NE Syria held talks with members of the German Parliament in Berlin, Germany. They discussed the current challenges facing the region.
The delegation included Mahmoud al-Mislat, Co-chairman of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Ilham Ahmad, Co-chairwoman of the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Abdulkarim Omar, Representative of DAA in Europe, Joseph Lahdo, Representative of the Syriac Union Party in Europe, and Khaled Darwish, Representative of DAA in Germany.
The delegation held many meetings with Jürgen Hardt, the member of the German Parliament and a politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), and Qasim Taher Saleh, the member of the Germany’s Green Party, at the Federal Parliament Building.
The participants in the meetings discussed several key issues related to Syria in general and NE Syria in particular.
Those issues were political, economic, and security challenges facing the region as well as the ongoing threat posed by ISIS. However, the ISIS reorganizes its ranks and exploits the continued Turkish attacks on NE Syria.
The two sides discussed the issue of the thousands of ISIS fighters held in detention centers, as well as the tens of thousands of their families living in al-Hol and Roj camps in NE Syria.
The delegation and the German parliamentarians discussed in detail the devastating effects of the ongoing Turkish attacks on the infrastructure and vital service facilities in NE Syria. These attacks have caused power, gas, and water cuts in civilian-populated areas. These hostile acts have exacerbated the suffering of the people and contributed to new waves of displacement and migration abroad.
The delegation stressed the need for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities towards the region. Those responsibilities included supporting the AANES to establish stability, reduce displacement and migration, combat terrorism, and prevent ISIS from reorganizing its ranks.
