The recent abduction and sexual assault of a minor girl by Turkish occupation mercenaries in the village of Kabashin, in the Sherawa district of occupied Afrin, has sparked outrage and anger among women’s movements and organizations in the North and East Syria region.

Sara Organization for Combating Violence Against Women condemned this heinous crime. In a statement made in front of their center in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo, attended by dozens of women and representatives of political parties and civil institutions, they stated, “The treacherous Turkish state and its mercenaries continue their repeated attacks, systematically and deliberately targeting civilians and children.”

The organization pointed out that the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries commit these crimes daily in the areas they occupy in Syria amid complete international silence.

In the statement, the organization highlighted the recent crime in Afrin, where a member of the "Sham Legion," affiliated with the Turkish occupation, abducted a 17-year-old girl from Kabashin, assaulted her physically and sexually, and then returned her to her parents' home in a dire physical and psychological condition.

The statement also noted the patriarchal mentality dominating society, mentioning that the girl's father attempted to kill her upon her return before the villagers intervened to stop him. The organization questioned, "Where are the advocates for child protection in the face of these brutal, immoral, and inhumane attacks?" They called on these advocates to fulfill their duties in protecting children and to stand against the crimes of the Turkish occupation and hold it accountable.
