Director of the Center for Documentation of Violations, Mustafa Abdi, said in a statement to ANHA's agency that the statistics being published are “only a small part of the full picture.” For the crimes of Turkey and its mercenaries in the occupied Syrian areas, which he described as “closed colonies.”

Abdi's speech came days after a report issued by the center about the kidnapping of 41 people in the occupied Afrin canton in just two weeks, by Turkish intelligence and its mercenaries.

Mustafa Abdi noted that they are “deeply concerned about the terrible violations of human rights in the Syrian regions occupied by Turkey, especially what the indigenous population of Afrin is exposed to in particular. We demand international intervention to protect Syrian citizens from the control of armed militias affiliated with Turkey and the consequences of the Turkish attacks on populated cities, towns and villages, while calling for a transparent and independent international investigation into the crimes of the Turkish occupation committed as war crimes and crimes against humanity.”

He added, "We strengthen the call for human rights organizations to intensify their efforts and document violations, focusing on the humanitarian situation and demanding basic rights for citizens, and the necessity of ending the occupation, the return of the displaced, and the release of the kidnapped."

Abdi also explained that the statistics they monitor express a small part of the full picture, as the largest number of crimes remains hidden and outside the scope of coverage, as a result of the difficulty of reaching the occupied areas that have become closed colonies, stressing that in every village, the most horrific violations are practiced in prisons, They reported this to the Independent International Investigation Committee in their last meeting.

At the conclusion of his speech, Mustafa Abdi said that they are seeking to increase efforts to shed light on the humanitarian conditions in those areas, calling for strengthening investigations and transparent documentation by all organizations to reflect the reality in all its comprehensiveness, and we urge human rights organizations to work continuously to ensure respect for basic rights and promote justice, with a decisive call to end occupation.

The number of abductees during the year 2023 reached more than (461) and during the year 2022 more than (720) cases of abduction. They are among the abductees whose names the Violation Documentation Center was able to document, while the actual number is more than that, especially since there are names that their families have reserved mentioning, in addition to There were cases of arrest that the Center was unable to reach, and the deaths of civilians under torture, as well as multiple cases of violation, were followed and documented.

Since the beginning of this year, Turkey and its mercenaries have killed 4 citizens, and with the recent kidnapping, they kidnapped 97 others, including children and women, in occupied Afrin, according to the latest statistics until the report was prepared.

Since March 2018, with Turkey and its mercenaries occupying Afrin, killings, kidnappings, looting, theft and assassinations have continued against the remaining Afrin residents, and trading in the property of those forcibly displaced from it.
