The Syrian Democratic Council intensified its endeavours inside and outside Syria, preparations and preparations for the convening of the Conference of Democratic Forces and Personalities to remove Syria from the dark tunnel, in the light of attempts to transfer it to a conflict between international powers.

Leading opposition figures will participate in the conference

Syrian political figures will participate in the conference next autumn, including the Vice-Head of the former Syrian National Opposition Coalition "Mufaq Nirbi", the prominent Syrian opposition Issam Dimashqi, representing the Syrian citizenship stream, the Syrian politician, writer and journalist Wa 'el Soah, the Syrian neighbourhood group Nasser al-Yousef, and the participation of selected figures and political forces from the Syrian city of As-Suwayda.

Preparations for holding the Conference

SDC co-chairmanship, Ali Rahmon stressed: "The SDC is working on this project, which is a strategic project, because it is of great importance, especially given the fragmentation and weakness of the Syrian opposition, and therefore a political body that represents the aspirations of Syrians for freedom and dignity must be formed."

On the extent to which political forces and democratic personalities have responded to the Conference, Rahmon explained that there are high expectations and hopes that this Conference will be convened by all, and said: "Thus, many are motivated by the importance of this work. There are considerable consensus on many visions, especially the previous discussion on the topic of decentralization, pluralism, democracy and inclusive national identity. The importance of the Syrians having an inclusive national identity gathered by Syria, and thus a future Syria, can include them through the formation of Syria's national identity."

Conference held in autumn

The SDC was scheduled to convene the Conference of Democratic Forces and Personalities in 2023, but a number of reasons and circumstances prevented it from being convened. Ali Rahmon noted the existence of a Preparatory Committee for the Conference. The preparatory committee is composed of representatives of forces and figures active in Syria's political situation and has influence and scope. "We are therefore part of and supportive of this situation, and we are working towards the realization of this Conference."

On the date of the Conference on Forces, Personalities and Democracy, Rahmon revealed that the conference was scheduled to take place before the autumn, and said: "This conference is not for the SDC alone, we would like it to be under the dome of the European Parliament in Brussels."

The Syrian and Turkish regimes oppose the convening of the conference

Rahmon made no secret of some parties' opposition to the convening of the Conference on Democratic Forces and Personalities. He pointed out that there were those who stood up to the Conference. He said: "Especially the Syrian regime, because it is aware that this Conference will be a real alternative and will work towards finding a real alternative to this regime, thereby countering and distorting it; there is also the Turkish Government, which has worked and continues to work for the non-convening of this conference."

Objective and relevance of the Conference

The Vice co-chairmanship of the Syrian Democratic Council, Ali Rahmon, stressed that the importance of this Conference comes from two key factors: "First, the 13-year-old Syrian catastrophe, and therefore the absence of Syrian political forces representing Syrians with their aspirations, Making this crisis extend to where we are on the one hand and, secondly, the regime's intransigence in agreeing to any political solution in Syria, It was also a fundamental reason why this Conference was so important that Syrian political forces with weight and effectiveness would be able to place the Syrian file on the real track in order to reach a political solution in accordance with United Nations resolutions. "

Addressing the importance of the conference, Ali Rahmon said: "Its importance lies in the formation of a political body that believes in a peaceful Syrian political solution in accordance with international resolutions, and the implementation of the resolutions approved by the United Nations, first and foremost the implementation of resolution 2,254 guaranteeing a democratic transition in Syria, an attempt to bring the opposition forces together into a single political body that meets the aspirations of Syrians for freedom and dignity."
