The Baghdad court has dropped the charges against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and acquitted the people it had arrested in connection with the cases of burning markets in the governorates of Dohuk, Hewler and Kirkuk.

Although the Iraqi security and military authorities have not reached any confirmed results about who is behind these fires, the Baghdad court claimed that 3 people affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party were behind the fire, and accordingly arrested three Kurdish citizens. It later decided to acquit them of these charges.

With this trial decision, the charges against the 3 citizens were dropped, and they were released. The court also decided to return the cars and trucks that had been confiscated during their arrest.

The following are the details of the fires:

The first fire occurred on January 21, 2024 in the Ahmed Agha market in Kirkuk, causing significant damage to many shops.

On February 27 of this year, a fire broke out in the Lenki market in Hewler, burning more than 160 shops.

On April 1 of this year, a fire broke out in the Shalal market in Hewler, burning more than 100 shops, causing significant financial damage to them and others.

On April 8, the incident was repeated in the Lakni market in Hewler.

The Foreign Relations Committee of the Kurdistan Communities Union denied all charges against the Kurdistan Workers' Party, stressing that these attacks target the Kurdish people and threaten security and stability in the region.
