Dismissed Water institution workers in Swedia protest against termination decisions

Dozens of dismissed contract workers from the General Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation in Swedia held a protest on Sunday outside the administration building in the city of Swedia, objecting to decisions to terminate their contracts, which they described as arbitrary and unfair.

The protesters held signs calling for fairness and an investigation into the mechanisms used to dismiss workers, as well as for combating corruption and subjecting the decisions to oversight and inspection. They also stressed their objection to the publication of dismissal lists retroactively without having been officially notified at the time.

A delegation from the Suwayda Workers’ Union Committee joined the protest in solidarity with the workers and technical and field staff, who said they had found themselves out of work after years of service.

The protesters noted that some workers were surprised to find their names included on dismissal lists issued months earlier, while they had continued during that period to perform their field duties under instructions from their supervisors, without receiving their financial entitlements or having clear employment status.
