The Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) is continuing preparations for a new initiative aimed at seeking international recognition of the Kurdish people as a distinct people with their own identity, while pursuing observer status at the international level, in line with the outcomes of its 24th General Congress.

The KNK held its General Congress on June 6–7 in the Dutch city of Venlo, where participants discussed a range of issues related to the future of the Kurdish people and efforts to strengthen Kurdish national unity. The congress concluded with the adoption of several resolutions.

Among the key resolutions was a call for international recognition of the Kurdish people as a distinct people with their own identity, alongside efforts to secure their observer status at the United Nations.

Sources within the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) said the initiative is currently under discussion and that the outcome of those deliberations will be announced in the near future in the form of a roadmap to be presented to both the Kurdish and international public opinion.

The sources said discussions are continuing over the most appropriate mechanisms for implementing the initiative, adding that work is underway to develop a comprehensive vision and action plan to achieve the objectives adopted by the congress.

They added that the results of these consultations will be unveiled in the coming period as a political roadmap or strategic vision to be presented to Kurdish and international public opinion.
