Defense Ministry announces investigation into explosions in Syria

The Media and Communications Department of the Defense Ministry in the Transitional Government told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the ministry’s relevant authorities are investigating the causes of explosions at several military sites, the latest of which occurred at a weapons depot near the town of Al-Eis, south of Aleppo.

The ministry said that protecting military personnel and civilians, uncovering the facts and determining responsibility are among its top priorities. It added that it would take the necessary measures based on the findings of the investigations to ensure the safety of individuals and sites and prevent similar incidents from recurring.

It said it would later announce the confirmed information uncovered by the investigations, without affecting their progress or compromising their security.

A powerful explosion occurred this morning near the town of Al-Eis in southern Aleppo countryside. Earlier, ANHA agency reported hearing an explosion in the Al-Hadaba area, with initial information indicating that civilians may have been injured.

The Defense Ministry later said the explosion occurred at one of the Syrian Arab Army’s sites and that the damage was limited to material losses. Military police were deployed in the area, while military engineering units began securing the site of the explosion and the surrounding areas.

The causes and circumstances of the explosion remain undisclosed pending the results of the investigation, which the Defense Ministry said would later reveal the verified information and details.
