KNK Calls for inclusive National Conference and greater Kurdish unity

The assembly, attended by Kurdish political parties, institutions, and independent figures from different parts of Kurdistan, emphasized the importance of protecting Kurdish national and cultural rights and supporting efforts aimed at resolving the Kurdish issue.

Participants discussed political developments in Kurdistan and the Middle East, Kurdish national strategy, the status of the Kurdish language, and challenges facing Kurdish communities. The meeting also highlighted the need for a unified Kurdish position in defending language rights and resisting cultural assimilation policies.

Among its key decisions, KNK called for a broad national conference involving all Kurdish parties, organizations, institutions, and independent figures to advance Kurdish unity. The congress also announced plans to work toward securing international recognition of the Kurdish people and pursuing representation at the United Nations.

The statement further expressed support for ongoing discussions regarding a peaceful resolution to the Kurdish issue in Turkey and welcomed efforts aimed at dialogue and democratic reforms. KNK also voiced support for democratic rights and freedoms in Iran, condemned the repression of activists and protesters, and stressed the need for a democratic solution to regional conflicts.

KNK highlights regional challenges and reaffirms support for Kurdish rights and unity

In the second part of its final statement, the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) said that ongoing regional developments could create new political opportunities for Kurdish communities, particularly in Eastern Kurdistan. While stressing that Kurds are not a party to the current conflict involving Iran, the congress noted that they may benefit from political changes emerging from the situation.

KNK welcomed recent cooperation among six political organizations in Eastern Kurdistan and described it as a positive step toward greater coordination and national unity.

The congress strongly condemned Iranian attacks targeting Southern Kurdistan and Kurdish political groups, as well as the continued use of executions and repression inside Iran. It called on Kurdish parties, civil society organizations, intellectuals, and the wider Kurdish public to adopt a unified stance against such actions. It also urged Iranian opposition groups to establish a common democratic front and called on the international community to support advocates of freedom and democracy in Iran.

Regarding Syria, KNK stated that the country has entered a new phase following political changes in Damascus. The congress criticized attacks carried out against areas administered by the Autonomous Administration and expressed support for ongoing dialogue between Kurdish representatives and the authorities in Damascus. It welcomed agreements recognizing Kurdish constitutional rights but stressed the need for full implementation.

The statement also condemned attacks against religious and ethnic communities in Syria, including Alawites, Druze, and Christians, warning that further violence could threaten social stability. KNK called for the protection of all Syrian communities and emphasized that a democratic political system is essential for Syria’s future.

On the situation in Southern Kurdistan, the congress described the federal status of the region as a major Kurdish achievement that must be protected. It expressed concern over political divisions, delays in government formation, and external pressures facing the region, warning that continued disunity could jeopardize Kurdish gains.

KNK also addressed the situation in Sinjar, stressing that the region is an integral part of Kurdistan and calling for the protection of the Yazidi community, preservation of its identity, and respect for local self-administration.

The statement further highlighted challenges facing several Kurdish and regional communities, including Feyli Kurds, Yarsanis, Khorasan Kurds, and the Assyrian-Syriac-Chaldean people. KNK reaffirmed its commitment to defending their rights, preserving their cultural and religious identities, and ensuring their representation in public life.

Concluding the statement, KNK emphasized that all peoples living in Kurdistan, including Kurds, Assyrians, Syriacs, Chaldeans, Armenians, Arabs, and Turkmens should enjoy equal democratic rights and political participation. The congress rejected all forms of discrimination and racism and called for stronger cooperation among all communities to prevent division and safeguard coexistence.

In the concluding section of its 24th General Assembly statement, the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) discussed the situation of Kurdish communities in Central Anatolia and former Soviet republics, expressing concern over discrimination and attacks against Kurds in several countries. The congress stressed that Kurdish rights must be defended wherever Kurdish communities live.

Women's rights and political participation were also prominent topics. KNK praised the progress of the Kurdish women's movement but noted that gender equality remains an unresolved issue. The congress called for greater representation of women in political parties and institutions, the removal of barriers to women's participation in national unity efforts, and the recognition of violence against women as a crime against humanity.
