The Turkish occupation state has escalated its attacks on various areas of Iraqi territory and Southern Kurdistan, and recently tourists were targeted in Dohuk, and a car carrying a journalistic crew was bombed, killing journalists Gulistan Tara and Hîro Baha al-Din on August 23.

Iraqi political analyst Haitham al-Khazaali confirms that the Turkish incursion is a violation of Iraqi sovereignty, and that it is targeting citizens, refuting the Turkish allegations by saying: "It has begun to infiltrate more into Iraqi territory, and it is also launching attacks far from its borders and even far from its declared targets."

Al-Khazaali pointed out that the Turkish attacks that Iraq is witnessing are in collusion, participation and agreement with the authorities of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Southern Kurdistan. "The Turkish incursion into Northern Iraq is taking place in coordination with the regional government."

He added: "There are Iraqi parties that agree to the Turkish incursion, and I believe that the regional government is unfortunately among them; it did not condemn this incursion, knowing that Turkey targeted civilians and set up checkpoints in Dohuk and conducted searches for them, and it is a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the region and the Iraqi government on its lands."

In his speech, Al-Khazaali highlighted the recent security agreement that the Iraqi government concluded with Turkey on August 15, and its repercussions on the future of Iraq. He believed that the Iraqi government tried to conclude a security agreement with Turkey similar to the security agreement that was concluded with the Islamic Front in Iran, but the flaw in it is the absence of a clear and explicit agreement on the complete withdrawal of Turkish forces from Iraqi territory and respect for Iraq's sovereignty.

He stressed that this would lead to the consolidation of its presence in Iraqi territory and the violation of Iraq's sovereignty, "Turkey first and last, and Erdogan only thinks about his personal interests and expansion at the expense of other parties."

"Turkey is trying to annex Southern Kurdistan to one of its 81 states."

Regarding the Iraqi government's commitment to silence and the killing of Iraqi citizens, al-Khazaali said: "The Iraqi government issued several statements condemning the Turkish incursion, and later sought to conclude a security agreement in order to lift the tension between it and the Turkish government, but the main problem is the approval of the regional government and its failure to condemn the Turkish incursion. Rather, there is cooperation, and it allows Turkey to infiltrate the northern governorates, while the Iraqi army cannot enter these governorates except with the approval of the regional government."

Noting what drives Turkey to expand and infiltrate Iraqi territory, the Iraqi political analyst, Haitham al-Khazaali: “I believe that the problem lies in the existence of a local government whose sovereignty conflicts with the sovereignty of the central government, and this is what Turkey is playing on and exploiting in order to expand its ambitions and turn the Kurdistan Region into one of its 81 Turkish provinces, according to their statements.”
