Iranian media reported that a group of detainees in 18 prisons in Iran announced that they joined the weekly hunger strike campaign to stop executions, through a statement.

The statement pointed out that the detainees in women's wards 4, 6 and 8 in Evin prison and detainees in units 3 and 4 of "Qezel Hisar" prison, "Karaj Central Prison", "Khorramabad", "Nizam Shiraz", "Khoy", "Naqdeh Tabriz", "Urumieh", "Ardabil", "Salmas", "Saqqez", "Baneh", "Mariwan", "Kamiaran", "Lakan Rasht", "Qaimshahr" and "Vakilabad Mashhad", announced a hunger strike on Tuesday.

Since last Tuesday, more than 45 prisoners have been executed in Iran, 29 of whom were hanged in one day, and 26 en masse in Qezel Hisar prison, these detainees said.

The campaign statement referred to the incident as a record of "murders and executions carried out by the Iranian regime" in the past few years, and said that in the past few weeks, a large number of political prisoners have also been sentenced to death in a shadowy trial, and on trumped-up charges such as "prostitute" and "corruption on earth."

The "Every Tuesday, No to Execution" campaign was formed to protest the execution of Kurdish political prisoners, Wafa Azerbar, Mohammad Farammarzi, Bajman Fathi, and Mohsen Mazloum, on 29 and 30 January.

This campaign to stop executions was initiated by political prisoners in Qezal Hisar and Karaj, and then joined by prisoners from other prisons.

On 4 July, the Iranian Human Rights Organization reported 249 executions in the past 6 months and warned of intensified executions in the days following the elections in Iran.
