Iranian authorities arrested Kurdish doctor and internal medicine specialist Bayan Salhiyan after raiding her home in Urmia, amid reports that she was physically assaulted and taken to an undisclosed location.

According to the Women’s News Agency (NUJINHA), the Kurdish doctor was physically assaulted during the arrest operation.

Human rights sources reported that security forces conducted a thorough search of her home and confiscated all of the doctor’s electronic devices, including her mobile phone and personal computer. The Iranian authorities have not yet disclosed the reasons for her arrest or the charges against her.

It is noteworthy that Bayan Salhiyan, who is originally from the city of Saqqez and works in Urmia, was previously arrested during the 2022 protests. She was sentenced to eight months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime online,” a sentence that was later commuted to a fine.
