August 15 marks the 40th anniversary of the declaration of the (August 15 leap) armed struggle against the Turkish occupation state, led by the martyr Masum Korkmaz (Agid), and the sound of the first shot spread throughout the four corners of Kurdistan and the world, and opened the door for the youth and the Kurds and Kurdish people to join the ranks of the struggle and struggle that continues to this day.

The first shot fired by the martyr leader Masum Korkmaz and the declaration of the armed struggle within the Kurdistan Freedom Movement is known among the Kurds and Kurdish people as the August 15 leap (i.e. the August 15 step).

Eitan Resho, the sister of three martyrs who joined the armed struggle within the ranks of the People's Defense Forces, namely; Renas, real name Nidal Rasho, joined in 1992 and was martyred in the Garzan region in 1995, Badran, real name Hassan Rasho, joined in 1996 and was martyred while fighting in 1997 in Southern Kurdistan, and Nadim Rasho, who joined the Internal Security Forces in Afrin in 2014 and was martyred in 2017.

As well as the sister of the detainee Fuad, real name Mohammed Rasho, who joined the Kurdistan Freedom Movement in 1994, and while carrying out his revolutionary activity in Syria, he was arrested by the Damascus government in 2017 and handed over to the Turkish occupation state, and he is still in Turkish prisons to this day.

Eitan Rasho referred to the achievements made thanks to the August 15 leap: "Thanks to it, military forces were formed to protect our existence, culture and language and defend our land against colonial attacks, because we were convinced that right is taken by force and that soft politics are of no use with our enemies."

Eitan Resho confirmed that her brother followed the courage of the martyr leader Akid, and said: "He had the greatest impact in making the Kurdish youth in Jiayi Kerminj (Afrin) and the rest of the regions of Kurdistan stubborn fighters against the colonizers, including my brother Nidal Resho, by carrying weapons to save the Kurdish people from the clutches of injustice and slavery."

Regarding the change in the resistance style of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, Eitan said: "The Kurds needed such a step to deter the occupier from practicing a policy of violence against the Kurds, and it is also an answer that we will use the passive (simple) defense method, that is, defending ourselves and our existence if any attack occurs, and we will move to the active defense and total defense method to regain our rights that were stolen by force if we do not obtain them through the first defense method."

"A free Kurdistan requires sacrifice"

As for Zahida Sheikho, the sister of the martyr Jihad, whose real name is Adnan Sheikho, who became acquainted with the Kurdistan Movement at a young age, and worked to deepen his knowledge of the cadres of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, and their method of organization, including the martyr Masum Korkmaz, she said: "He joined the Kurdistan Freedom Movement in 1993, and he believed that the vision of a free Kurdistan requires sacrifice of soul and blood, and the boldness and courage that characterized the character of the martyr Agid."

The martyr Jihad wrote great heroic epics in Kurdistan, and while he was carrying out one of the activities with his comrades, they fell into an ambush set for them by the occupying Turkish state, and he ascended to the rank of martyrdom with his comrades in 1995. Zahida Sheikho explained the reason for the influence of an entire people on the August 15th leap and the martyr leader Agid: “Because of his strong connection to the Kurdish cause and the thought of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, he declared armed struggle against the occupier, to prove that no force is capable of breaking the will of a people who wanted a free life through their resistance.”

"Firing the first bullet into the enemy's forehead was a warning to the tyrants and occupiers"

As for Asia Jafo, the mother of the martyr Damhat, whose real name is Mustafa Omar, who joined the ranks of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement in the year of the kidnapping of Leader Abdullah Ocalan in 1999, the idea was rooted in his mind when he read about the martyr Agid and heard about his heroism.

Asia Jafo emphasized the prominent role of the martyr leader Agid in the Kurdish cause, and said: "He made sacrifices for the sake of an entire people, and his step in firing the first bullet into the enemy's forehead was a warning to the tyrants and occupiers that whoever encroaches on the lands of Kurdistan will receive a harsh response and that the Kurds are no longer as they were before and will not give up their usurped rights."

Asia Jafo added: "The commitment of the martyr Agid to the principles of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement and his courage in taking the first step in declaring armed struggle and changing the method and pattern of resistance of the movement made him a source for many young Kurds to join the freedom movement."

Regarding the gains of the August 15th leap, Asai said: "Thanks to it, we have established our military forces that defend the region against the occupation attacks, and we were able to introduce ourselves to the whole world that we will not give up our rights and will take them by force if necessary."

Asia sent a message to the patriots and the Kurdish people: "Everyone must rally around this movement because it is the right path and leads the Kurdish cause towards freedom and victory. With the presence of the guerrillas, we Kurds exist and without them we would have been lost. We must be worthy of the sacrifices of the cadres of this movement by escalating our struggle and organizing ourselves according to the thought and philosophy of Leader Abdullah Ocalan."
