TEV-DEM calls on people to join August 15 activities
The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) stated that the People's Defense Forces (HPG) and the Free Women's Units - Star (YJA-Star) have, over the past forty years, achieved remarkable feats with their historic resistance and their supportive stances in protecting the cultures and peoples of the region from threats and attacks. They have called on the Kurdish and Kurdistan peoples to actively participate in the events and activities held to mark the August 15th anniversary.
The movement's statement read: "We remember all the martyrs of freedom and the martyrs of August, especially the prominent leader, Martyr Agid, who instilled fear in the hearts of enemies with his initial practical steps."
The movement emphasized that the August 15th leap was significant for initiating a new phase, describing it as "a political, ideological, cultural, moral, and organizational leap more than a military one, aimed at reinforcing the status of the Kurdish existence and identity denied by the Turkish occupying state."
TEV-DEM noted that August 15th marks the beginning of the declaration of free national will, a national awakening that spread widely among the Kurdish people. It was a national and important response to the ongoing resistance and its development with the philosophy of interconnectedness with the values of prison resistance, and a response to the Turkish fascist regime that denies the Kurdish existence, a people with a rich civilization, culture, and history.
The movement confirmed: "The first shot on this historic day was the spark of resistance and defense against the colonizers, coming at a critical juncture for our Kurdish people, opening the path for them to choose their national future within the sacred national resistance, involving the participation of women and youth and transforming them into a moral and ethical defense force."
TEV-DEM’s statement further elaborated: "The transformation brought about by the August 15 leap, based on the philosophy and principles established by Leader Apo, was a social, political, revolutionary, and qualitative shift differing from other revolutions in the history of struggling peoples in terms of organization, discipline, and a civilizational development imbued with true national values and moral, social, and revolutionary principles, through its influence and the extent of its ethical values to protect achievements and defend humane values."
The movement pointed out that "for forty
years, the fascist Turkish occupying state and Kurdish traitors have repeatedly attempted wide-scale military operations to eliminate the Kurdish Freedom Movement, but they have failed in all their attempts. To this day, they continue to use all fascist and military means, including internationally banned weapons, drones, and other tools."
It also stated: "Through their criminal and violent methods, they commit the most heinous acts against Leader Apo, intensifying their policy of isolation against him and all the peoples of the region who see themselves protected by his philosophy."
TEV-DEM discussed the sacrificial spirit of the fighters from the People's Defense Forces and the Free Women's Units - Star in protecting the values of the region’s peoples and the connection between the peoples of the region and these forces. It said: "The sacrifices made by these forces are evident to the world in Şengal, Makhmur, and other areas in Iraq and Syria during the ISIS attacks. The support of the region’s people for these forces is a strong testament to the people's trust in these forces."
The movement affirmed that the People's Defense Forces have saved hundreds of thousands of people from ISIS and the Turkish occupation state and its collaborators. It stated: "Over forty years, the HPG forces have achieved heroic feats with their historic resistance and their support in protecting the cultures and peoples of the region from threats and attacks. They are now engaged in a significant struggle against the Turkish occupation state, which is attacking S. Kurdistan in collusion with the Kurdistan Democratic Party."
TEV-DEM called upon all Kurdish and Kurdistan peoples and all the region’s inhabitants of every class and segment: "In the spirit of the legendary martyr Agid, to join forcefully and determinedly in the celebrations of August 15 and the birth of resistance with the philosophy of revolutionary people's war, and to energetically embrace the historic leap of August 15 everywhere. Let us exert more efforts and struggle to end and thwart the isolation policy imposed on Leader Abdullah Ocalan, and unify our resistance with Leader Apo’s resistance and with the resistance of the Guerrillas in Zap, Metina, Amadiya, and everywhere. Support the global campaign for the physical freedom of Leader Apo.”
