The operation, which the Afrin Liberation Forces described as a guerrilla operation, took place on January 30, and resulted in the killing of 12 soldiers from the Turkish occupation army and 8 mercenaries, and the wounding of 25 soldiers and mercenaries, in addition to the destruction of a Dushka weapon, a heavy weapons site, and two surveillance cameras.

The sources told ANHA agency that preparation for the guerrilla operation took about a month and included monitoring and following up on enemy movements, the types of weapons in the sites that were targeted, and the numbers of the occupiers, including Turkish soldiers and mercenaries.

The same sources stated that the targeted sites contained weapons, such as tanks, mortars, Dushka machine guns, thermally guided missiles, and military binoculars for day and night vision.

Regarding the numbers of soldiers and mercenaries in those locations, explained that their number is approximately one hundred, adding that the number could be larger, taking into account the presence of tunnels inside which mercenaries hide in the occupied village of Basala in the Sherawa district.

Journalist Agid Roj says that most of the mercenaries stationed in Basala are of Caucasian origin and remnants of ISIS who managed to escape from the Baghouz area in the spring of 2019.

The same sources confirmed that 18 sites were completely destroyed during the guerrilla operation, and added that the headquarters of the Turkish occupation army in the villages of Kemar, Anabkeh, Tal Jibrin, Kobla, and Jalbara intensively bombed the village of Basala during the operation, in an effort to save themselves but the Afrin Liberation Forces targeted those headquarters.

Despite the intense bombing of those villages by the military headquarters of the Turkish occupation state, the Afrin Liberation Forces carried out the operation successfully, and remained in the village of Basala for about two hours, until approximately ten in the morning.

Journalist Agid Roj, who follows the operations of the Afrin Liberation Forces, warned against being drawn into the media misinformation used by the Turkish media to cover up the huge losses it suffered recently.

The village of Basala, along with both the villages of Aqiba and Binah in the Shirawa district, forms a plain with a single area, and the strategic importance of the village located southeast of the city of Afrin lies in it being the main key to accessing the terrain of the occupied Liloun Mountain, which directly overlooks many areas in the occupied city of Afrin, the village is only about 20 kilometers from the city center of Afrin.
