Celebration marks 20th anniversary of KJK's founding
The residents of the cities of Darbasiyah, Tal Tamr, and Zirggan celebrated the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Women’s Community (KJK). As part of the celebration, women planted flowers and trees to honor this occasion and to pay tribute to the struggle led by Kurdish women over the years.
Today, the people of Darbasiyah, Zirghan, and Tal Tamr in the Jazira Canton commemorated the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Kurdistan Women’s Community (KJK), with broad participation from local residents, members of civil institutions, councils, and the Internal Security Forces, in the square of the Darbasiyah bus station.
The celebration began with a moment of silence in tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for freedom and dignity. This was followed by a speech from Sherin Osi, an administrator of Kongra Star in the Jazira Canton. She emphasized that the Kurdistan Women’s Community was founded thanks to the struggle of revolutionary women, most notably the martyr Sakine Cansiz, who played a pioneering role in building this community, which has formed a flexible structure for women’s struggle for freedom and equality.
Sherin Osi added, “The struggle of women in our region continues today on all fronts, against the ongoing attacks targeting women and attempts to break their will. We draw our strength from this community and work to establish the ideology of the free woman, which originated in Kurdistan and has now reached across the world.”
The celebration featured musical performances by the Shorsh and Martyr Zilan bands, affiliated with the Movement of Culture and Art, in addition to singer Danish Botan, who added a touch of revolutionary and folk musical color.
To the rhythm of revolutionary songs, residents formed traditional dance circles, sharing moments of joy and pride.
At the end of the celebration, members of Kongra Star planted flowers and trees as a symbolic gesture to honor the anniversary of the KJK’s founding and to pay tribute to the struggle of Kurdish women over the years, who continue to follow the path of this community in advancing women's rights and their status in society.
