The Women’s Committee of the Newroz Cultural and Social Association organized an intellectual and training seminar today, Saturday, on “Jineology” (the science of women), at the association’s center in the capital, Beirut. The event was attended by a number of women and those interested in social and cultural affairs.

The seminar, chaired by the head of the Women’s Committee, Hanan Othman, came as a first step in a series of seminars and training sessions that the committee plans to organize for women, with the aim of enhancing knowledge and awareness of women’s issues, concepts of sociology, and women’s role in society.

The seminar addressed the concept of Jineology, its origins, and its historical development, as well as the reasons that led to its introduction as a knowledge-based approach concerned with studying women and society from a different perspective, with a focus on women’s experiences, their history, and their roles in building society.

It also discussed the main areas on which Jineology focuses, including the reality of women, social relations, women’s history, the causes of discrimination and inequality, and women’s role in bringing about social change. The seminar also highlighted the importance of producing knowledge based on women’s experiences and their social and cultural realities.

The seminar noted the limited spread of the concept of Jineology in the Arab world compared with traditional concepts of the social sciences, considering that introducing the concept and creating spaces for discussion around it constitute an important step toward understanding issues related to women and society from different perspectives.

The seminar witnessed active participation from attendees, who asked questions, exchanged views, and discussed the concepts presented. A number of participants also shared their experiences and perspectives on the reality of women and the social issues associated with it.

The seminar concluded by emphasizing the importance of expanding knowledge of the concepts of Jineology and sociology and promoting a culture of reading and training among women. The Women’s Committee of the Newroz Association affirmed that the meeting marks the beginning of a series of training sessions and knowledge-based gatherings that will address various social issues and concepts in their upcoming stages, with the aim of providing women with an ongoing space for learning, dialogue, and the exchange of experiences.
