The Iranian authorities carried out 93 executions between 31 July and 30 August, and a group of UN experts expressed concern about the sharp increase in the number of executions carried out by the Iranian regime last August and called for an immediate moratorium on executions.

The UN experts noted that this number is more than double the 45 executions carried out between 30 June and 30 July.

According to experts, the Iranian regime executed 400 citizens, including 15 women, this year. They noted that nearly half of those executed, according to Iranian authorities, committed "drug-related offences."

The organization Defense of the Free Flow Information (DeFFI) published a report on the repression of media and journalists in Iran during the rule of the new Iranian president.

According to the organization, between August 1 and 31, at least 18 journalists and media workers in Iran were subjected to judicial and security proceedings in 22 separate cases.

Among these measures, Iran's judicial and security institutions violated the legal rights of journalists in at least 12 cases.

This month, at least eight journalists and media activists have been imprisoned continuously, according to media websites: Ruhollah Nakhei, Kamiar Fakour, Presia Salehi, Sherin Saidi, Yashar Soltani, Fida Rabbani, Nisreen Hosni and Saba Azarbaek.

In mid-August, with the execution of Fuad Sadeghi's prison sentence, the number of journalists and media activists imprisoned reached 9.

The organization for DeFFI reported earlier in July that during the first 6 months of this year, 181 journalists and media professionals were subjected to judicial and security proceedings.
