"Turkish intervention threatens March 10th Agreement"

The Syrian writer and political analyst Abdel Rahman Rebou' confirmed to ANHA agency that the recent visit of the Turkish delegation to Damascus and its meeting with the head of the Transitional Government, Ahmed al-Sharaa, included agreed-upon military arrangements between Damascus and Ankara.

Rebou' explained that the Transitional Government requested a lengthy period from Ankara to address internal Syrian issues and reach an agreement with the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces. He noted that the two sides have reached advanced understandings over the past nine months, amid leaks about a comprehensive agreement that is currently being finalized.

He pointed out that there are parties "that do not want this agreement to be achieved and prefer the continuation of clashes and fighting," describing them as "warlords who have thrived on killing and looting, and fear losing their privileges." He emphasized that some of them are acting at the behest of external powers that do not desire stability in Syria.

Rebou' pointed out that Turkish media continues to threaten military action targeting the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Autonomous Administration project, while Ankara expresses its displeasure with what it considers Damascus's procrastination in engaging in any confrontation against the SDF. He added that forces within the Syrian Ministries of Defense and Interior are linked to Turkish Intelligence and are preparing to engage in a direct confrontation with Turkish funding and support, similar to the operations of Peace Spring and Olive Branch.

He stated that the clashes that occurred on Monday, December 22, in which factions affiliated with the Syrian Transitional Government used artillery, constitute an indication and a message that these forces are ready for the mission.

Rebou' stressed that what is required today is for the Syrian leadership and the SDF leadership to block the path of extremist forces and warlords, calling for the swift implementation of the March 10th Agreement to neutralize those inciting violence and bring the warlords wanted by international justice to account.

He concluded by warning that any military action against the Autonomous Administration areas would mean "tearing up the March 10th Agreement and opening the door to blatant international intervention," stressing that this would lead to the loss of the international and popular legitimacy that had been gained, adding, "Then, neither the Turks nor the Russians will be of any use, and the government must avoid repeating the disastrous mistakes of Sweida."
